Frequently Asked Questions

Q- I see that most disposable batteries are 1.5 volt and most rechargeable batteries are 1.2 volt.  Since there is a voltage difference will they work as a replacement battery?

A- It is very rare that there is ever a problem with this voltage difference.  When your 1.5v alkaline battery is new, it is truly 1.5 volts.  The voltage starts to drop as soon as you begin using it and they usually quit functioning at around 0.7v.  A rechargeable battery holds a charge of between 1.0 and 1.2 volts nearly until it is completely discharged.

Q- Should I be concerned with the mAh number when purchasing a battery?

A- The mAh or milli-amp hour number is the amount of charge that the battery will give off in 1 hour.  Usually the higher the number, the higher the battery storage capacity. With high drain devices a high number is very important.

Q- Where can I purchase Rechargeable batteries?

A- Many stores that sell disposable batteries now offer rechargeables.  To find specific types of rechargeable batteries, a web search may be necessary because most retail stores still mainly sell disposables.

Q- What is a dry cell battery?

A- A dry cell battery is a category that includes both disposable and rechargeable batteries.  An example of a wet cell battery would be an automotive battery.

Q- Can I recharge a disposable battery?

A- NO! NEVER ATTEMPT TO RECHARGE A DISPOSABLE BATTERY!
